This wasn’t just another maternity session—it was our final one. For once, we stepped in front of the lens during a session on Kent Island, soaking up golden hour as a family of four. (No need to panic—we’re still capturing maternity stories for other families. This was just the last time we felt baby kicks on camera.) It was truly a special session for us as it marked our own Kent Island maternity session. The last time watching Valarie cradle new life with that familiar glow that somehow makes time stand still.
It’s bittersweet in every sense of the word. We’re closing a chapter that has shaped us in the deepest ways. And as we’ve been saying… this season has really hit us in the feels.
Valarie’s strength through it all has left me in awe—working full-time, chasing our little tornado Cali, entertaining Ellie (who’s five going on fifteen), and raising her into a beautiful little woman who’s already mirroring her mama’s heart. All while carrying this final baby with grace and grit. Meanwhile, I’ve been commuting an hour most days while she anchors the home with a quiet strength that doesn’t get celebrated enough, preparing for the next chapter after our Kent Island maternity session.

Now we step into life with three. The complexity is real. And let’s be honest—we’re officially transitioning from man-to-man to zone defense. 😅
There’s a shift happening:

And somehow, in the midst of the chaos—Valarie continues to carry it all with grace. Quite literally. That white dress she wore? $40. And she wore it like it was couture, much like she did during the Kent Island maternity session. Floating through the tall grass, sunlit from behind, cradling our last baby—she looked effortlessly stunning. It’s always the simple things that somehow end up meaning the most. These days—the noise, the chaos, the laughter in the kitchen, the tired hugs at bedtime—these are our legacy.
Our prayer: that our girls grow up knowing what love looks like. That they see their parents fighting for joy, faith, and each other. That they feel secure, seen, and surrounded by grace.
It’s about slowing down, pouring into our girls, cherishing our time together, and keeping our marriage and family rooted in God—even when the world feels chaotic.
And honestly, sometimes it’s the little things that help mark these seasons with sweetness—like the pink dresses the girls wore, which Valarie found on Amazon. They were simple, affordable, and yet they felt so special. Watching the way they danced in the breeze and caught the light—those dresses were a gentle reminder that creating beautiful memories doesn’t have to cost much, similar to our experience during the Kent Island maternity session. It just takes intention, love, and a little sunlight.

We had this session at Terrapin Beach Park on Kent Island, right around 7 pm—our favorite golden hour. It’s a location we’ve recommended often as a Kent Island photographer, but experiencing it from the client side gave us a whole new appreciation for how the light wraps around that field during a Kent Island maternity session.
It gave the images that sense of timelessness, like the light itself was leaning in to witness something sacred. This was truly a Kent Island maternity session to remember.

We actually photographed my brother and sister-in-law’s maternity session a few years ago in Charleston—also at sunset. It was one of those evenings where everything just clicked: the light, the setting, the anticipation of their first baby, Sloan. Though they now call Maryland home—and my sister-in-law was born and raised here—there’s something really special about capturing these milestone moments in places that hold deep meaning, similar to our own Kent Island maternity session. You can see their Charleston session here. It’s a sweet reminder that no matter where we are, sunset light has a way of slowing time just enough to let us breathe it all in.
If you’re ever planning a session at Terrapin—or anywhere outdoors—start about an hour before sunset. At Terrapin specifically, the light hits just right as it reflects off the bay and rolls through the grass. It’s worth every bit of effort. Indeed, a maternity session on Kent Island will show you how special the light can be.
Starting a session 60 minutes before sunset gives you that sweet light, especially at Terrapin, where the bay reflects the sun just right during the Kent Island maternity session .
Our hands are full. Our hearts are fuller. These photos aren’t just snapshots—they’re our story in light: the strength, the sweetness, the season of holding on and letting go, all captured in that perfect, glowing moment during our Kent Island maternity session.

This was our family—at the close of one beautiful chapter and the beginning of another. After spending the past year building our life and business here on Kent Island, it was surreal to step out from behind the camera and experience a session as clients. It reminded us just how deeply personal and important these photos really are—not just for our clients, but for us too. This maternity session on Kent Island wasn’t just another gallery to share—it was a piece of our story.

If this season of life has you slowing down, soaking in the little kicks, and dreaming about the sweet face you haven’t met yet—now is the perfect time to document it.
Terrapin Park offers one of the most peaceful, golden-hour-filled backdrops on Kent Island. It’s where quiet moments turn into lasting memories and where your story gets told in the softest light.
Whether it’s your first baby or your final bump, we’d be honored to capture the beauty and emotion of this chapter with you.
